D.A.R.E.

On a rare visit to Wal-Mart yesterday (ugh -- Wal-Mart -- I know, but I needed a bday card) there was a D.A.R.E. table set up outside. I'm not sure why because I didn't stop.

Actually, I pretended like I was in a hurry when the guy at the table started soliciting me [not in the way I wanted to be solicited, he was cute, but too young] ... But, it reminded me of my 4th and 5th grade DARE classes where a local officer came to warn us youngsters of the dangers of drugs. Whatever Officer Futia (I can't believe I remember his name) said scared the sh!t out of my because it worked and I was always afraid to try anything, using the "Just Say No" option. Now, I'm past those peer pressure days and would say no, not just because I know better, but because I just would.

In vintage style, here's a suggestion to the the DARE marketers for a new ad campaign (i.e. PSAs)

this is your brain before-drugs

this is your brain after-drugs

I really like Amy Winehouse, I think she has (or had) an amazing voice and oh so much potential. Its sad, but crack is whack. 'nough said.

There must be something about those DARE officers because I can remember mine too. His name was officer Kirby and he was dreamy to a 6th grader!

Yikes! I had forgotten his name...but his message scared me, too! I didn't know they still had DARE...weird.

Officer F wasn't dreamy (if he had been, I probably would have daydreamed more and missed out on the important drug-free lessons). But, he was very authoritative and respectable.

(Geesh, I must be a lawyer b/c I just thought -- hum, if I were asking a jury questions, I would ask if they respected police officers. And this would be an example of when/why).
