from The Denver PostYay! The memorial day holiday always signals the beginning of summer with: sunshine, barbeques and my birthday ~ well, at least in theory. All that was missing was the sunshine, barbeques and my birthday (which is usually during the holiday, but not this year).
Monday I forced my family to get up early (circa 6:30 am) and walk 6.2 miles with me in the Bolder Boulder 10K race. I signed everybody up a few weeks ago, and surprisingly, they got really excited about it. We left the house with little on our backs -- literally, we were sans jackets. We walked to the bus stop and made our way across town to the starting line with 53,000 of our closest friends.
Except, when we arrived, there was no sunshine. It was about 50 degrees and dark gray clouds covered the sky. It rained off and on, getting worse after we crossed the finish line. Luckily we were continuously moving and I almost didn't notice the cold, almost. When the race ended though, all I could think about was taking a warm shower and curling up with a warm blanket.
My results: 2:13 hrs (with 2 bathroom breaks, at least a 20 minute detour). These are not stellar results. I'm disappointed I didn't do better. I don't have any excuses, but I am proud to have finished my first race. Now, next year I can improve (with more training, of course).
